Smart Transport Solutions Pty Ltd is a new and innovative public transport planning company based in Sydney, Australia. Whether you are located around the corner or around the world we are pleased to offer our services to you.

Our director, John Bartlett, has more than twelve years experience in public transport planning and scheduling. John is currently completing a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Sydney. Subjects completed to date are Transport and Logistics Economics, Transport Policy, Planning Procedures, Planning Law, Transport, Land Use and Infrastructure Planning and Economic Tools and Community Development.

John has previously been employed by the Busways Group, Westbus and Parsons Brinckerhoff.

John's key strengths are:

Proficient in the use of the Austrics, Hastus and Trapeze computerised scheduling systems.

Extensive customer service experience in different industries.

Demonstrated ability to produce substantial cost savings in bus operations.

Strong scheduling and route planning skills.

Ability to think 'outside the square'.

Ability to schedule manually.

Extensive knowledge of Australian and overseas transport operations.

Familiarity with Australian cities and their transport and planning characteristics.

John's transport career highlights:

2004 -2006 Route Services Scheduling Manager Busways Group
Worked on North West T-Way service planning. 2004 Service review Busways, Blacktown which reduced peak bus requirement by 2 buses. Worked on major service review at Campbelltown in 2005 which included extending services into new part of Harrington Park. Represented the company at meetings with local MPs, community groups and Driver's Union representatives.

2002 -2003 Planner at Westbus
Service review Penrith (south) routes. School bus reviews. During the period which I was looking after Penrith planning the peak bus requirement was reduced from 102 to 91.

1995-2002 Scheduler at Busways Group
Carried out all aspects of the scheduling process including blocking, runcutting (manually, Trapeze and Hastus). Analysis of patronage data.

Four weeks Hastus training from Giro personnel. Attended two week Austrics training course in Adelaide.

John has visited overseas transport operations to see how their planning and scheduling is organised. Operations visited include Yellow Bus Company (now NZ Bus) in Auckland, NZ, STCP in Porto, Portugal, TMB in Barcelona, Spain, BC Transit in Vancouver, Canada, TTC in Toronto, Canada and Metro Transit in Seattle, USA.
